Countries and ethnic groups with a Confucian cultural background have performed well during the pandemic. This comparative advantage will inspire efforts to Confucianize ethics. Fukuyama believes that Confucianism as a whole is a defense of authoritarianism but does not pose a major obstacle to liberal democracy, with which it is even compatible in some respects.
